The verdict of the electorate delivered on 23 May 2019 has lessons for the BJP as well as for the opposition. Clearly, at the state level, the BJP is far more successful in dislodging opposition governments than retaining power. While the BJP may not have delivered tangible benefits on all these, the message is clearly that BJP led by Modi is the preferred choice of the electorate for fulfilling these promises. Fourth, the Modi government did start its tenure with an image of being pro-rich with the tag of “suit-boot ki sarkar". Despite the negatives on the economic front, why does Modi remain the preferred choice of the electorate?
